CHDA: clarity over claims.

CrescentRating's Halal Dining Assurance (CHDA) diagnostic scores an outlet's halal assurance as Muslim diners actually perceive it — an internal read for industry stakeholders, not a certification diners see.

The Outcome at Stake
Peace
Conditional
Avoidance

Scored 0–10 — the same scale for every outlet.

What the grade is built from.

CHDA scores an outlet against seven weighted criteria, translating operational reality as experienced by the diner into a single 0–10 figure and one of three outcome states.

CHDA does not issue religious rulings and does not replace halal certification. It sits alongside certification, purely as an industry diagnostic — not a diner-facing product.

Each outlet lands in one of three outcome states

Peace

No follow-up questions at the table. The outlet converts the booking without friction.

Conditional

The order proceeds, but only after the diner checks with staff or looks for reassurance signals first.

Avoidance

The booking or the order doesn't happen. Doubt resolves before the outlet gets the chance to convert it.

Most restaurants don't lose Muslim diners because they break halal rules. They lose them because they make things uncertain.

The grade in practice

A
Halal Certified

Independently certified — the strongest form of verification.

B
Self-Assured, Muslim-Owned

No third-party certification; ownership carries the assurance by default.

C
Self-Assured, Non-Muslim-Owned

No certification and no Muslim ownership; the outlet self-declares halal status.

D
Vegetarian / Vegan

No meat on the menu, so halal risk is assessed differently.

Seven elements behind every CHDA grade.

Who verifies the operation, and how robust that oversight is. Independent certification and clear governance consistently outperform self-assurance and marketing claims.

Landing in Conditional or Avoidance?

Score your outlet against the scale above. If you're landing short of Peace, CrescentRating can help you close the gap — certification pathways, menu and signage fixes, and staff training that move the grade. Destinations can use the same scale to benchmark their halal dining ecosystem as a whole.
