The Mastercard-CrescentRating Muslim Women in Travel 2019 uncovers various profiles that Muslim women travelers identify with and their purpose of travel. It also confirms the role of Muslim women in influencing trip planning and decision making in a given travel context.
There are 4 travel contexts that Muslim women travelers may travel in – solo, in an all-female group, with their family or in a mixed-gender group. The purposes for their travel can be grouped in four categories – leisure, religious travel, business travel and other purposes.
The most prominent profile among this segment are the leisure family travelers who are between the ages of 35-44. Family travelers are the most influential in this travel context in trip planning and making the trip decisions for their other family members while in the travel context of an all-female group, they have an equal level of influence with their female companions.
It should also be acknowledged that many Muslim women travelers do not just identify with one profile. The MWIT profile identification diagram above allows destinations to uncover the different permutations of the profiles.
