Defining the Framework of the NYC Halal Travel Guide
First launched in 2022, the 2026 edition of the New York City Halal Travel Guide curates a blend of the city's eclectic, modern, and historic offerings tailored specifically for Muslim visitors. It operates as a practical tool to bridge the assurance gap for travelers, offering detailed information on verified Halal culinary experiences, accessible prayer spaces, and culturally rich landmarks across the five boroughs.
The guide introduces travelers to the unique ecosystem of NYC, where every borough functions as its own distinct city packed with diverse cuisines, community hubs, and unforgettable cultural experiences.
Mitigating Travel Friction for Global Mega-Events: Football World Cup 2026
This updated edition is launching in conjunction with the upcoming World Cup, running from June 11 to July 19, 2026. With NYNJ Stadium (MetLife Stadium) serving as a primary venue for eight matches including the highly anticipated final, the New York-New Jersey corridor will host an estimated incremental increase of over one million travelers.
To aid fans, the guide provides logistical details, including information on transportation to and from the venue, as well as features that address Muslim travelers' specific needs. The Mastercard-CrescentRating Sports Tourism 2026 report found that Muslim travelers face a variety of challenges, with 48% citing a lack of prayer rooms and 28% struggling to find Halal food. To speak to this, the guide features vetted Halal-certified vendors, such as Shah's Halal inside the stadium, as well as prayer locations across NYC.
“New York City is proud to welcome Muslim travelers from around the world with resources that reflect the diversity, inclusivity and hospitality that define our city,” said Julie Coker, the CEO of NYC Tourism + Conventions. “As we prepare to host eight matches during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, including the final, the relaunch of our NYC Halal Travel Guide ensures visitors can easily access halal dining, prayer spaces, culturally rich experiences and accommodations across all five boroughs. This guide is an important part of our commitment to creating a seamless and welcoming experience for every traveler who chooses New York City.”
Inside the Guide: Documenting Heritage and Hospitality
The guide covers several key segments of interest to both travelers and destination marketers:
Historical Muslim Lineage
A timeline of Islam’s roots in the United States, stretching from 17th-century colonial history to Harlem’s Black Muslim intellectual movement of the 1960s.
Must-Visit Spots Across the Boroughs
The guide promotes must-visit cultural attractions, retail zones, and Halal-compliant dining across the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens and Staten Island.
The guide also includes information about official fan events in each borough, as well as a five-day itinerary, tailored for Muslim visitors interested in experiencing the World Cup energy across NYC, along with the City’s many parks and communities.
Premium Hotel Directory
Muslim travelers will also find a hotel directory containing a list of hotels across the five boroughs with various price points to cater to every traveler's needs and preferences.
Advancing Inclusive Excellence
The launch of the updated NYC Halal Travel Guide represents a broader industry shift toward more inclusive and values-driven tourism. By embedding faith-sensitive elements directly into the operational fabric of the city's World Cup and summer planning, NYC Tourism + Conventions together with HalalTrip are actively lowering the friction of travel for Muslim communities worldwide. Whether visiting for the love of the game or the pull of the city's unmatched culture, Muslim travelers can step onto the streets of New York with absolute confidence and peace of mind.
For destinations seeking resilience in a value-driven era, this guide stands as a benchmark for scaling trust infrastructure and engineering inclusive, zero-friction global travel corridors.
