As the global Muslim travel market moves toward an estimated USD 310 billion in annual expenditure by 2030, the demand for a standardized faith-conscious hospitality has never been more urgent. While destinations worldwide are rapidly introducing "Muslim-friendly" marketing and facilities, the industry faces an ongoing challenge on how to establish standards of trust without creating excessive problems that discourage commercial businesses from participating.

To address this balance, CrescentRating, the global authority on Halal-friendly travel, will join international policymakers, industry practitioners, and corporate leaders at the 5th World Islamic Tourism Conference (WITC 2026) in Pahang, Malaysia.

About WITC 2026

Organized by the Islamic Tourism Centre (ITC) under the Ministry of Tourism, Arts & Culture (MOTAC), Malaysia, the World Islamic Tourism Conference is Southeast Asia’s premier platform dedicated to advancing the Islamic tourism economy. Taking place on 5 and 6 November 2026 at The Zenith Hotel in Kuantan, Pahang Darul Makmur, the 5th edition is themed “Faith & Family Beyond Borders”.

The conference features 4 strategic verticals and 13 conference tracks, bringing together international tourism ministers, national tourism organizations (NTOs), airline executives, hospitality operators, researchers, and trade buyers. Key pillars of the 2026 agenda explore economic resilience, pilgrimage ecosystem evolution, generative AI in travel planning, and the launch of the 5th WITC Mart to foster direct business-to-business networking and regional partnerships.

Speaking on Muslim-Friendly Assurance

Representing CrescentRating, Founder & CEO Fazal Bahardeen will take the stage on Thursday, 5 November 2026, as a featured speaker in the Industry Recognition vertical.

Bahardeen will join global and industry leaders for the high-level panel discussion:

  • Session Title: “Muslim Friendly Assurance Recognition: Balancing Act of Integrity and Enterprise”

  • Date & Timing: 5 November 2026

  • Venue: Grand Ballroom, The Zenith Hotel, Kuantan

The panel examines the delicate balance between strict Halal compliance and commercial enterprise agility. Discussions will center on establishing shared standards across food assurance, prayer amenity access, family privacy, and inclusive wellness.

Drawing from CrescentRating’s assessment models—including the Mastercard-CrescentRating Global Muslim Travel Index (GMTI) and the ACES framework (Access, Communication, Environment, Services)—the session explores how standard-setting bodies and accreditation schemes can eliminate "label dilution" and greenwashing while providing hotels, attractions, and tour operators with clear, commercially viable pathways to welcome Muslim travelers with verified confidence.

To a More Standardized Muslim-Friendly Tourism

The 5th World Islamic Tourism Conference in Kuantan marks an important step toward standardizing trust across the international visitor economy. By participating in strategic dialogues on assurance frameworks, CrescentRating continues to bridge data-backed standards with commercial innovation, ensuring that global destinations and hospitality enterprises can deliver authentic, inclusive, and sustainable travel experiences for faith-conscious visitors worldwide.
